FS2 Weekly Round Up

This week FS2 have been busy continuing their learning on Castles, Knights and Dragons. In Maths we have been making crowns that represent numbers 6,7 and 8. In Literacy we have drawn story maps and acted out the story 'The Knight Who Wouldn't Fight'. The children did a great job acting out the roles of the knight, toll, griffin and dragon. In choosing time we have been drawing knights, building castles and making shields. We have been working hard with our phonics and enjoying guessing what the teachers have In their box. Keep practising at home! This week we have also enjoyed a 'reading for pleasure' themed parent breakfast. You can still complete feedback using the QR code that has been emailed out to you.

Next week we look forward to our new story 'Zog' where we will dive into building our who doing what sentences and enjoy drawing club.

Join us for our parents and carers meeting on Wednesday, 4th February at 9am at High Hazels Academy. This is a great opportunity to share your thoughts and connect with other parents.

We’ll discuss:

• Why some children struggle with social skills and what we can do to help

• How we can help our children understand their own difficulties/needs and begin to express these

Plus, we'll tackle other school-related topics and answer any questions you might have. Drinks and snacks will be available!

FS2 Meet The Teacher Breakfast - Reading for Pleasure

Thank you to all the parents who made it to our FS2 Reading for Pleasure Breakfast this morning, it is always lovely to have parents in the classrooms engaging with their children's learning. We hope you enjoyed our healthy offering of overnight oats and took one of the recipe cards home so you can make it yourself. It so important children have a good breakfast to start their day and oats are a great food to set children up for a great day of learning.

Sheffield Grand Mosque and Sheffield Parent Carer Forum are hosting a SEND support event at the Grand Mosque on Grimesthorpe Road, Sheffield, on 30 January 2026, from 11:00am–2:00pm.

Families will have the opportunity to meet with up to 20 local services, including, a stall from, Sheffield Parent carer forum, Ryegate Team OT, and sensory team, Eating Disorders Team, Community Continence Team, Family Action, SSENDIAS, and more. The event aims to support families who may be struggling to meet their children’s SEND needs by offering advice, signposting, and practical support in one accessible place.

All are welcome and there is no need to book.

FS2 News

What a fantastic week we've had in FS2! We have been learning all about castles, knights, and dragons, and our royal banquet was such a highlight! A huge thank you to everyone who dressed up as kings, queens, princesses, and knights—you all looked amazing. Special thank you to all the parents who sent food!

Another special thank you goes to the parent who brought in a bird of prey for the children to see, it was such an exciting experience!

In Literacy, we’ve been working hard to write short words and phrases and using shape coding to build “who doing what” sentences. In maths, we’ve been comparing mass, length, and capacity. We’ve also had lots of fun making shields.

Thank you to everyone who attended our phonics drop-in sessions—it was lovely to share our learning with you, and its a great opportunity for you to see h9ow best you can support your child at home.

Next week, we’re looking forward to our Parent Breakfast, where we’ll celebrate reading for pleasure and enjoy a healthy breakfast together.
