Governance

High Hazels Academy is a part of United Learning whose Trustees hold the ultimate responsibility for the governance of each United Learning school.

The Department for Education’s governance handbook 2020 identifies the essentials of effective governance as follows:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding the executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.

United Learning’s Trustees delegate certain key roles and responsibilities to the school’s Local Governing Body (LGB) and these are set out clearly in our Scheme of Delegation which can be seen on the United Learning website.

We take pride in the shared responsibility we have

Dear Parents, Families, Children, Staff and Community Members

My name is Shufqat Khan and I am recently appointed the Chair of Governors for High Hazels Academy. I‘m honoured and privileged to be given such a responsibility and want to emphasise my commitment to the education of children at the academy. I am dedicated to working hard with my Governing Body colleagues, the Headteacher, school staff, parents, partners and wider community to help the academy on its journey to becoming Outstanding academy in all aspects.

I very much want this to become one community school where everybody is welcomed. Our vision is to provide a happy, caring stimulating, peaceful and learning environment where all our children achieve their full potential.

I am currently employed at Sheffield Park Academy as Head of Department and a teacher.  I have lived in Darnall area for over 50 years, all my children have attended High Hazels Academy.

I am involved with the local masjids and community organisations in the Darnall area, and I also work closely with young people and families.

With your support, High Hazels Academy will become a place of excellence where all children make good progress and achieve their academic, creative, personal, physical, faith and spiritual potential. We aim to instil strong moral values whereby children can learn respect for themselves and others.

I value our professional and highly motivated school staff. The partnership which is beginning to develop between school, parents and community will provide further opportunities for our children, for parents and for families.

High Hazels Academy is moving forward at pace and we have an exciting and positive journey ahead of us. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to share it with you.

I became initially governor and now the chair of Governors to support the school with my experience, and to be a source of challenge and support to the school

Yours Sincerely,

Shufqat Khan
